How much of your work day is spent sitting? Global research claims that a person will sit an average of 7-15 hours a day. At least 7 of those 15 hours are spent sitting at your desk during work. People were not made to sit; we were made to stand and move around! Research has revealed that there are several health risks correlated with sitting for extended periods of time. Health risks so serious that it will make you want to get up from your office chair and do work standing up. This research was performed by James Levin, and endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic. In Levine’s studies, he found that sitting too often was associated with 4 out of the 7 leading causes of death in the U.S: Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke and Diabetes. Now how does one do work standing up? The answer is simple.
The standing desk. The standing desk is the cure to the sitting disease, a silent disease that is spreading across our generation and infecting our future. The standing desk is a recent health fad that is being used around the corporate world. More and more of these life savers are revamping office spaces. They are changing the way we do our work, not just by standing up, but improving our health one less office chair at a time.

Yes, sitting and smoking have almost identical health concerns, so get up and do some standing!
3. Reduced Risk of Obesity Levin found in his research that the key to reducing the risk of obesity is consistent amounts of movement throughout the day. He discovered that once you’re standing up, you tend to move around more. According to just.stand.org, standing is similar to walking. Standing increases energy levels, burns calories, tones muscles, improves posture, increases blood flow and boosts your metabolism. Standing is more powerful than you could ever imagine.
